Camara de Lobo

 

Camara de Lobo is a few kilometres west of Funchal and its main industry was fishing, but in recent years it has become orientated towards the tourist industry.
There is much local colour, including a local alcoholic brew called.
Winston Churchill had a liking for Madeira and stayed on the island many times His favourite spot was Camara de Lobo where he did much of his painting and there are a number of establishments named after him.
There is of course a harbour and there has been significant improvement in the infrastructure, improvements that are still in progress.
From Funchal, Camara de Lobo can be reached by bus or taxi; it is also a favourite stopping point for many of the island's coach tours.

The bus trip is fairly quick and inexpensive.
