Ribeira Brava

 

Ribeira Brava is fairly large with plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants. In recent years, there have been many improvements to the seafront with safe areas for swimming, have been created. This town is well worth a visit, the shopping areas are interesting and the sea is warm, but be aware, the beach has plenty of pebbles. It is located on the coast, west of Funchal and can be reached by bus or taxi. If you are going to take a bus, which of course is the cheapest method, tried to get one that travels on the expressway. If you get the bus that takes the longer route, although this has the advantage that you see the local countryside, it does take quite a long time and some of the roads are quite bumpy. If you like swimming, this town is certainly worth a day's visit.
