Sao Vicente

Sao Vicente is on the north coast and in 1928 was largely buried by a landslide.
Since its reconstruction there has been considerable emphasis on conservation.
On the outskirts of the town there is a complex of volcanic caves, which is now a tourist attraction. These caves consist of a series of lava tubes and there are regular conducted tours. There is a three-dimensional, geological film show and an enormous mock-up of the Earth's core. This is done with mirrors, but it is most spectacular. We suggest this attraction should not be missed.
Sao Vicente is not the easiest of places to get to. Public transport is probably impractical and coach tours are rare or non-existent.
We would suggest a taxi, a little expensive but very definitely worth it.
